Let's Not Be Wasteful

So again after reading the latest essay, it has inspired me to write about something else on my blog. The essay about dumpster digging has really overturned my views on how much people actually use and consume. I know for a fact that I buy way to many clothes and shoes that I don't get the full use out of and then end up throwing them out or selling them when they are in perfectly good condition. The homeless then take these things because, well, what else are they supposed to do to get by in life? But the people who live in this country buy way to many things that they really don't need. They buy things because they look cool or they think they will need it later in life when they wont. These things then eventually go to waste. I guess there are two points to this situation. If your on the homeless end, this is absolutely a good thing that people throw out perfect things. If your an average person with this problem, well then that sucks for you because your wasting money and buying other people things.
I've noticed as well, that when at a buffet, people take food that they then don't end up eating. Many people throw out and waste food that is then eaten by the homeless people.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that my goal is to watch what I buy and spend my money on so that I'm not wasting it in the end. And I'm going to watch what I take when I eat and make sure I eat everything on my plate. Some people don't get to eat every day like we do. We have to be greatful for the things we have. I think other people should try to watch what they spend their money on too. Because it doesn't grow on trees. We have to work for our money and of course we deserve to get paid and spend that money on the things that we want. But that doesn't mean that we have to overspend and buy things we don't necessarily need. There is a difference between wants and needs and everyone has to establish the difference between those things in their lives.

An Experience to Think About

As I am running out of things to blog about, I found myself going to the website: fmylife.com and looking for ideas. I cam across one that was about people working at a checkout lane and dealing with customers, so I decided to share my experience while working at HyVee Drugstore.
It was a regular Monday night when I would usually take the 6-10pm shift because it was pretty slow going. I was straightening up some of the items in the first isle when I saw this lady come in with 3 children. One was older maybe around 10 and the other two were about 5 and 3. However, the lady was handling the older girl very fiercely and telling her what to do in a very upsetting tone. I guess to me it seemed unreasonable she should be talking to her daughter that way because I've been raised in a household where my parents don't yell and swear at me. They proceeded further into the store and I didn't really think anything of it. About twenty minutes later, the family was ready to check out and the mom started putting her groceries onto my lane. At HyVee drugstore, There is only one main lane for checking out and a small area for the carts to be placed. I started ringing up her items and she told the older girl to put the cart away. The girl simply pushed the cart then let go of it so it would go into line with all of the other carts, but the mother must have thought this behavior was unacceptable for some reason because all of a sudden she grabbed the girl by the neck and arms, threw her onto the ice cream freezer and put her head down on the glass and grabbed her arms and started swearing at her. "You do not act this way in public," she shouted and I was totally freaking out. I had no idea what to do. My manager came over and told me to call 911 but I was panicing and someone over at Customer Service called instead. We have a security guard who works in the store and he came over and took the lady back and the manager took the girl. They brought them both into a conference room in the back and I was left standing at my register with a picture of that entire scene happening and another customer and her child standing at my lane. She simply said to me, "I cannot believe people would treat their children that way," while holding onto her sons shoulders. I thought to myself how lucky I was to have the parents that I do and that I don't have to be treated that way. The police came in about 5 minutes later and the lady was banned from the store. I sure hope that her children got taken away from her and put into foster care. Kids do not deserve to grow up that way. My manager asked me to write down everything I saw and heard after it had happened because the police were going to file a report. This is probably why I will not ever forget what happened.
It just made me realize how much I need to appreciate the good things that happen in my life and I cannot even think about parents or even other people abusing kids.

Artificially flavored what?

After reading this weekends essay about McDonald's french fries and how they make them, it made me want to throw up and never ever eat anything processed ever again. Now I know that this, of course, wont happen because mainly everything you eat has chemicals and other factors in it that make it "look right, taste right, and smell right." Are you seriously kidding me though? In the essay, it talked about how companies that make flavoring and smells for foods can basically make any type of smell there is. You want body odor? You get body odor fruit snacks. You want freshly cut grass? You get freshly cut grass nutrigrain bars. This is completely unbelievable to me. Why in the world would anyone even need to invent something like that? That seems like a total waste of time and money. No wonder this country is in a recession.
Now don't get me wrong, I love McDonald's french fries more then anything in the world. I crave them nonstop. But, that doesn't make them good for you. They are totally harmless to your body. They're cooked in vegetable oil and are frozen before being cooked. Not to mention the amount of salt on one fry. I used to work at McDonald's and I saw what the food looks like behind the counter. Going to the freezer to get a bag of french fries so one can load the little wire basket with fries and shove it into the burning oil was not the most attractive thing ever. Just standing there I could feel the grease going into my hair and accumulating on my face. Of course McDonald's is still delicious, but the process to get it that way is terrible. And the food is so bad for you.
Overall I guess I'll just try to not eat so much fast food anymore and try eating healthier. Or are fruits and vegetables enhanced too with coloring from different insects I've never even heard of? Maybe I'll just grow my own garden so that I know the food I'm eating is safe. Eh, what am I thinking. I don't have time to do any of that stuff. So for now, I hope the bunches and bunches of chemicals I'm consuming each day aren't going to affect me later in life. Thank you, artificial flavoring.

Dancing at Disney

As the days go by, the closer and closer the dance team gets to going to Nationals in Disney World on February 4th this year. Personally, I really don't care how we do at this competition, we're going to Disney World for goodness sakes! But some of the other girls on the team are really concerned about what our placing is in the end. I get that they want us to be good, and I do too, but we don't have to be the best there is and get first place at a National Championship. We can't even get first in our own state so how are we supposed to get first in Florida? I guess I'm being a little bit of a negative person here, but what do you expect? Our coach pushes us to practice for two and a half hours for 3 to 4 days a week. I'm not complaining because it could be a lot worse. But we do have other things to do in our lives as well. And when she doesn't compensate for those other things, what are we supposed to do? This time of year gets really hectic because I have dance team practice and showchoir practice all the time. Not to mention the early morning and late night Saturdays that occur almost every weekend since January 9 until March 19. I get sick really easily this time of year and it's already happening. Once I get sick it usually doesn't go away until I can get enough sleep to get over it.
I feel like I'm complaining a lot so let's look at the bright side of dance team. One, the girls on the team are the best people in the world aside from the times when some can get nasty. I love dancing so I guess there is another positive. We get to get out of school occasionally which means not having to sit in class for 55 minutes. We have sleepovers sometimes which are always fun because we can't ever mess around at practice or we get yelled at. We get to go out of town together a lot. We get to eat a lot because we're always hungry after practice! I guess there is a lot of positives about being on dance team, I just never see them that often.
Disney World is such a wonderful place and I cannot wait to go back, even if it does mean that we have to dance while were there, it will be an experience in itself.

Waking Up to a Great Start

So this weekend starts the actual beginning of showchoir season. Friday night after the dance team danced at halftime during the boys basketball game, I went over to my friends house so she could put approx. 30 hard curlers in my hair so I could get the pleasure of sleeping with them in the entire night. After that was done I didn't get to bed until about eleven o'clock. Now, one may think that this is an early time to go to bed on a Friday night. But I haven't told you yet that I had to get up at 3:30am the next morning to be at school at 4am. Getting up wasn't the hard part. The hard part was functioning that early in the morning. I was shaking because my body was so tired. Running on four hours of sleep is not the way to go.

Arriving at school, everyone else looked the same way I did: like they had just rolled out of bed and drove to school. Not to mention that it was negative 15 degrees out or something around there. We all loaded into the bus after taking attendance and we were off to Lacrosse, Wisconsin.

Now I'm not going to complain about having a charter bus to take on a 4 hour drive, because it was much nicer then taking a regular old school bus. But, there was a squeaking noise right next to our seat the ENTIRE TIME. So there goes sleeping for me and my bus partner. We ended up just talking the whole time on the way there and trying to fall asleep, but it was no use.

Upon our arrival we had to help unload the trailer containing all of the things that we used to do our show later in the day. We then watched our prep group (who is amazing!) and then grabbed some food. After that it was about time to get ready to perform. I took out those curlers that had been giving me a headache ever since I had put them in and my hair was about ten inches shorter then it usually is. Doing your hair, makeup, and putting on your costume usually takes awhile and time flew while we were getting ready. Before we knew it it was time to perform. For a lot of us, the first time performing in the varsity showchoir at our school. Which, might I say, is quite an experience!

We gave our best show that we possibly could both in day round and finals and this is the earliest our varsity showchoir has ever competed. So we didn't do as well as we hoped we would, but it was still and experience that wont be forgotten. Despite all of the difficult hair and makeup issues, performing is totally worth it in the end.

This picture was taken by one of the moms of a girl in our group.

Nosy People

So I was sitting in class the other day while we had some free time and I just got out my phone and started replying to a text message i had received. In the middle of my sentence, I can see out of the corner of my eye someone leaning over to see who I'm talking to and what I'm saying. Now if this person was somebody that I knew and trusted, I wouldn't have minded so much. But the point is that this person was a complete stranger, someone I had never talked to before in my life. That is just plain rude. I understand that people want to know things sometimes but not if you do not even know the person who is trying to get into your business.
I seriously cannot stand when people are nosy and get into other people's business. I mean I guess I do it sometimes too but not that often and I don't pry people for information. People don't need to know everything about one person. That's why we have friends, to tell them things. But others who you don't know don't need to know each little detail. There are people at school always trying to get into everyone's business and create drama, which is a little immature if you ask me. Drama is middle school. This is high school, so get over yourselves and move on with your life. Yes, people do abnormal things, that's just part of life. But you don't have to go asking them every little thing about the event to get information. Just be happy you actually know what is going on.
I'm sorry that I'm totally ventilating on this blog. People have just made me mad the last week or so so I wanted to get it off of my chest.
There is one more thing I'd like to add while we're being open here. I hate it when people who aren't in high school, act like they are. If you graduate from high school, shouldn't you be happy and not want to have anything to do with your high school? I would be ecstatic if I could just leave high school right now and go live up my life in college. I wouldn't want to come back for high school events. Now I understand a couple of times of visits like to a football game or something but not every little event.

Little Kids are the Greatest

This year at Christmas, I played an Uno game with my 2nd grade triplet cousins and my other 6th grade cousin. We dealt out the cards and started playing, but right off the bat it was a complete disaster. The older girl was trying to control the younger three children and tell them how to play the game. We went around in a circle and you know how uno has draw two or draw four or wild cards where you can change the colors? Well they had absolutely no idea what to do with any of those. So when they would put a card like that down, the older girl would yell at them and tell them what to do. Then once one of the younger girls unterstood the game a little more, when another youngster would mess up, she would yell too. It ended up turning into a giant yelling fest. I eventually calmed them down with a matching game that they actually knew how to play, but it was quite entertaining to watch them think that they know what exactly they were doing, but in reality none of them were playing right. I probably wasn't even playing right because of all of the things they were doing, I couldn't remember which way was right! I'm pretty sure that these younger cousins of mine always have looked up to me. My mom gives them my old clothes for Christmas sometimes and then I see them wearing them when we come to visit. They always want me to play with them and be around them whenever we go, but there are other family that I'd like to talk to as well. But it's fun to spend valuable time with your little cousins who are just completely enjoying their life as a little kid. I miss those days when I could just be myself and nobody would judge you for what your wearing, what you look like, or what your doing. That's how my cousins act. They are so crazy and wild, they eat so much too! My little cousin in 2nd grade ate constantly the whole day and was always hungry for more. I was like dear God child! How can you keep eating and not get full and not become overweight?!
